V.S. Khrapovitskiy's Manor

V.S. Khrapovitskiy's Manor

The nobles Khrapovitskiy owned the settlement Muromtsevo since the middle of XIX century. The manor's heyday is associated with the names of its last owners – Vladimir Semenovich Khrapovitsky (1858-1922), a retired Colonel of the hussars, the Marshal of the nobility of the Vladimir region, and his wife Elizaveta Ivanovna (1857-1935).

Vladimir Khrapovitsky inherited Muromtsevo in 1884, he created the large forestry, the basis of it became vast forests, which have been the main wealth of these places for a long time. He organized the enterprise of breeding, processing and selling wood, bringing considerable income, which allowed to begin the reconstruction of his estate.

For the construction of new buildings was invited the famous architect P. C. Boytsov from Moscow. According to his projects, in Muromtsevo was built the main manor house, the Church of the Queen Alexandra, the building of the railway station, a hunting pavilion on the river Sudogda and probably many other objects. Rapidly in the estate were built the manor buildings and utility services, businesses, housing for workers, retail and warehouse space, as well as cultural and educational institutions. Special decoration of Muromtsevo was a huge Park made by using the traditional elements of French, English and Italian park construction, which was based on a complex system of hydraulic structures. The size and beauty of the estate gave a reason to contemporaries to call it "Imperial".

After the revolution in 1917 Khrapovitskiy emigrated, and the estate was nationalized. Its enterprise was the basis of the economic activities of the farm, organized in Muromtsevo in the first years of the Soviet rule. Then in the main building of the estate was located the academic and residential buildings of the college of forest and agriculture, established on the basis of the estate and economy of Khrapovitskiy.
