The Bogoroditse-Uspenskaya church (old believers)

The Bogoroditse-Uspenskaya church is the most famous monument of the XII century in Vladimir. The money for the construction of the church were given by the wealthy vladimir merchants Denisovs and Somovs, as evidenced by the carved inscription on the western wall of the building. The Bogoroditse-Uspenskaya church was one of the several churches that surrounded the main square of the part of the ancient Vladimir known as Posad. In this part of the city, outside the city gates, the wealthy craftsman and small traders settled , marking the beginning of the merchant dynasties in the pre-revolutionary Vladimir.

The guise of the Bogoroditse-Uspenskaya church reflects the traditions of folk architecture, allowing you to imagine what were the tastes of the customers and the skills of the performers. The church was built in 1644-1649 years on the site of the former wooden church. The church was named in honor of the great holiday of The Blessed Virgin Assumption. Until 1725, the monastery of the Assumption existed on the church territory. The main attraction of the church was its bell, dated 1650. In 1754 the building hosted the religious seminary. In 1955-1981 the church was restored to its original forv under the project of the architect A.V. Stoletov.

A relic of the church was the bell dated 1650, with the inscription of depositors who financrd the construction of the monastery. Unfortunately, the bell was lost in 1928 — 1929, when the Bolshevik government began the struggle for the destruction of church bells. But in 1923, the Bogoroditse-Uspenskaya church was on the list of historical buildings, what saved it from possible demolition.
